Australian former Subaru driver Chris Atkinson is set to return to the world rally circuit for at least six races next year, World Rally Circuit promotors said Wednesday.

"Nothing has been signed but things are coming together and an announcement will be made soon for at least six rallies," said Simon Long of promotors ISC.

Atkinson, 30, came fifth in the 2008 championship before Subaru withdrew from the competition.

In 2009 he made his only appearance of the season in a C4 for the Citroen Junior Team.

Atkinson, who has six podium race finishes to his name in four seasons of racing, will likely take a position with a private team set up by US rally driver Ken Block.
